Carbon Fibre Pipe Manufacturing
Filament wound carbon fibre pipe is made of thin carbon fibre yarns that are wound around a mandrel at specific angles and then cured with resin to create a strong and lightweight tube. The filament-winding process makes precise control over the orientation and thickness of the fibres, resulting in a tube with excellent mechanical properties, such as a high strength-to-weight ratio, stiffness, and resistance to fatigue and corrosion. Made by filament winding process, the carbon fibre pipes can be up to 14m in length and 500mm in diameter.
Roll-wrapped carbon fibre pipes are made by roll roll-wapping process. Carbon fibre prepregs layers are wrapped around a mandrel and onto the wrapping machine, it will be automatically wrapped as a tube, then wrapped with a thin plastic film. After the part has cured, the mandrel is extracted and the plastic film is removed. Roll-wrapped carbon fibre pipes whose lengths are up to 6m and diameters up to 500mm.
Pultruded carbon fibre pipes are made by pulling linearly oriented carbon fibres through a resin bath, followed by passing them through a series of heated tools to achieve the specified inner and outer diameters. Carbon fibre pipes are particularly stiff lengthwise because of the unidirectional fibre orientation.
