How To Make Roll-wrapped Carbon Fiber Tube?

Roll-wrapped prepreg carbon fiber tubes are constructed using multiple layers of weave and/or unidirectional fabrics, with roll-wrapped process below

  • Cut prepreg fabric: Cutting the prepreg carbon fiber fabric into patterns with specific fiber orientations according to carbon fiber tube design drawings.
  • Layer up prepreg on the mandrel
  • Roll Wrap: The prepregs are rolled on a mandrel to form the size and shape of tubes using roll roll-wrapped machine
  • Wrap plastic film. Wrap a layer of transparent OPP plastic tape on the surface of the rolled carbon tube, and tightly wrap the carbon cloth through the tension of the OPP tape to protect and shape.
  • Baking and curing. Hang the carbon tubes in the curing furnace, and the resin will be cured under high temperatures to form the tube shape.
  • Demoulding (Extract the mandrel): the mandrel is extracted through a demold machine
  • Remove the OPP plastic film: Peel off the OPP tape on the carbon tubing by machine or by hand.
  • Grinding: Polish the opp marks on the surface of the carbon tube to make the surface smooth.
  • Cutting: Cut the carbon fiber tube according to the actual length, and keep the effective length according to the design requirements.

Roll wrapped carbon fiber tubes offer a cost-effective solution for lightweight and high-performance structures, making them a popular choice in many industries. Roll wrapped carbon fiber tubes are commonly used in industries such as robotics, UAVs, sports goods, photography equipment, and automotive, where they offer high strength and stiffness, while still being lightweight.
